I have been working on Next Day Office Supplies

September 12, 2007

I have been busy as of late. One of the projects that I have been working on for quite awhile is a new on-line Office Supplies company called Next Day Office Supplies. I am proud of this new site, it offers users free express delivery for supply order $50.00 and over, risk free returns(free return shipping) and volume discounts. It is also one of the most user friendly office supply sites on the web IMHO. Give us a try the next time you have an office supply order.

10 Years of Scripting News

April 1, 2007

Scripting News is 10 years old today.

I remember when I started reading Scripting News back in 98, it was the same year I started reading MacInTouch. I stumbled upon Scripting News when I was just starting with programming. I was searching for a language that I could use on the Mac and I found “Frontier” and Scripting News at the same time. Well as it turns out I never understood Frontier although I tried; but I kept reading Scripting News. :-)

BTW,

Thanks Dave for writing Scripting News for 10 years.

I-78 storm between Allenton and Harissburg PA

February 16, 2007

The hilly 50 mile stretch on the East bound lanes where already blocked for several miles when we reached the top of the last hill on the West bound lane on I-78 on  Wednesday afternoon.

We got stuck 3 cars behind a tractor trailer on the last hill on ice. We all sat there as the storm kicked up for about 25 minutes. I was wondering how everyone was going to get out of this mess. When finally, the truck that was blocking everyone on the hill was able to somehow backup on to the shoulder.  We were lucky to get out of there I don’t think most of the folks behind us  who were backed up for miles were able to go anywhere because no tractor trailers could get passed the hill and there were several trucks in back of us. I am guessing that we were 1 of 5 or so cars that didn’t have to sit there for 24hours.  We were damn lucky!

Attention all Grocers

November 6, 2006

Excellent article in the NyTimes, finally a Grocer stands ups and says wait a minute . I hope other Grocers will follow Hannaford Brothers lead.

The chain, Hannaford Brothers, developed a system called Guiding Stars that rated the nutritional value of nearly all the food and drinks at its stores from zero to three stars.

Our government is failing us on this issue. Labels are maybe not to the point of making “Fake” claims but IMHO a lot of labels are misleading and/or confusing.

The thing is, a lot of claims we see out there are puffery,” said Joseph R. Baca, director of the office of compliance at the F.D.A.’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. “But they don’t get to the point where we can call them fake or misleading.

Via NyTimes

Products also bank on people not reading the back of label. So, making it easier to decipher nutritional balance is a good thing. Stars might not be perfect but it’s a start. Grocery stores could also put simple universal symbols on the shelf tag for foods that contain one of the 8 major allergens. It would help the millions of people like my daughter who suffer from severe food allergies.

BTW, I won’t patent that last idea it’s free for anyone to take. Hell, I would be even willing to pay for those universal symbols to be created.
